Kids Cover

A First for Australian Parents

Kids Cover is an affordable insurance policy designed to give financial relief to Australian parents with children under 5 attending full or part time childcare.

The idea came from the experience of Jane King who became a single parent with a two very young children in 2003. Jane faced a ‘sink or swim’ situation and decided to ‘swim’, and she founded Parenting Australia from her dining room table.

“It was two steps forward, three steps back, just as I thought I was getting ahead, my youngest would get sick and need a week off, I couldn’t work and on top of that I had to pay the child care fees while she was at home, it was costing a fortune”, said Jane

Jane has met with thousands of parents along the way “one of the common denominators they all struggle to pay fees when their kids are sick and they are losing days at work.”

Developed with Carole Anne Priest, CEO Altiora Retail insurance and winner Telstra Businesswoman of the year, corporate and private NSW 2007

Parenting groups who believe it will ease the burden for working parents have welcomed the concept.

Early Childhood Australia vice-president Ros Cornish said families would be relieved. "Many children who enter childcare do pick up a lot of bugs," she said. "When you are looking at a child who could be off sick for a over a week, then if I was a parent I would take it out."

“As a carer I have seen many unwell children sent to care because parents had no other choice - Kid Cover will ensure children are cared for properly, returning to care only when they are truly recovered.” said Marina Mc Hutchinson from The Australian Consortium of Nannies.

The results of a recent survey we conducted showed that the cost of care continues to be a significant barrier for many parents wanting to return to work. Kids Cover is a welcome and timely initiative,
“No surprise that a business woman, and mum, comes up with something like this. Well done!” says Kate Sykes, www.careermums.com.au

Kid Cover will cost $61/p.a. if you pay up to $200 per week in childcare fees, and $91/p.a. if you pay over $200 each week.
